With the insane volume of big and small guru’s email inundations promoting a new launch 2X per week – I felt it useful to reprint
You can read the original article (which got 67 comments) by clicking the link above.
It is very easy, working alone at your computer, to get caught up in the hyperbole and exagerration that is Internet marketing – where the truth to noise ration is so bad – most gurus have resorted to just shouting louder and using greater manipulation.
If we would all just use the stuff we already bought, finish one of the projects we’ve already started – and realize that the false scarcity (doors close in just 5 hours!) used to manipulate us into buying something expensive that only puts us further from getting anything done – we would have a much happier and profitable life.

Well, it was a Business Therapist consult with Melani Ward last week. Melanie is a Business Numerologist with an amazing ability and a fascinating business.
After she purchased The Stardust Factor, Melani rang me up and we did a session on the spot. She had such a unique and effective service, and her business was growing by leaps and bounds, but like many of us, she was having a hard time developing that Stardust Power and the marketing vocabulary to help her grow her business.
When you go to Melani’s site Melani Ward.com – you won’t see the web pages I saw because she made so many changes within 24 hours – but, notice the power of the testimonial in the upper left side of the header graphic.
Like many consultants she had a description of what she does in the header before. But, guess what,
People don’t care about you until they know a little more. Always remember, people are online thinking about THEMSELVES and their own problems.
I mean, here we have a highly credible source telling us how indispensable Melani has become to her business, rather than Melani.
I can’t tell you the confidential details of our consultation – but, you can ask Melani!
I’m really enjoying these 1 on 1 consultations. The Business Therapist model has gotten me into discussions nearly every day since the Stardust Factor was released – from “what should I do with my life” to what market niche, to how to create Fantasy Weekends with classic rock bands.
Don’t procrastinate another day on what you need to do to get your business on track, and get you focused on a kick-butt plan of action that will bring you the money and the fulfillment you know you can create in your business.
I am doing 1 afternoon session a day for just $250 – and look forward to being a part of your success!

Felicia Slattery on Twitter | http://communicationtransformation.com/
Felicia first caught wind of me during the Ross Goldberg/Rick Butts bitch fight over the the proper use of all the rotten launch emails we get inundated with. See “Ross Goldberg gives Worst Advice In Internet Marketing History”
Ross and I became friends soon after, just like 2 kids who slammed into each other in Little League then went to Dairy Queen later for ice cream.
Felicia came up to me while I was at dinner with Carrie Wilkerson, Perry Lawrence, and she TOLD me she didn’t like me very much. So then, it was ON! Of course, I’m just a big old teddy bear (right) in reality – so now we are mutual fans of each other’s work.
I stand by my belief that you have to be yourself – and not be afraid to color outside the lines and be controversial. Would she have even noticed me, would Ross, would Carrie – would you – if not?
Okay – I was going for Jack Nicholson but ended up sounding more like some kind of hilbilly who smokes cigarettes. This was fun – and I was surprised how easy it was to use the YouTube video recorder from my Mac.
Maybe I should run a contest and have the winner get one of my $250 Website Marketing Makeovers for the best video testimonial spoof etc?’

UPDATE: http://RickButts.com/business-therapist !
Watching “In Treatment” on HBO last weekend it hit me.
The coaching/consulting conversations I have with entrepreneurs and business owners is nearly identical to a personal therapy session.
I’m a solo entrepreneur – and have been for 2 decades. I know what it’s like. Who do you turn to for help in solving those frustrating double-edged sword decisions where you are damned if you do it – and damned if you do nothing?
This ain’t no party, this ain’t no disco, and this ain’t corporate cubicle world where the blame gets spread around and risk taking is avoided. Every day you put your entire business on the line by the decisions you make.
This is one of the reasons coaching is popular. But, most coaches can simply draw out of their clients what is important to them and help with traditional personal productivity and time management issues.
Now, here’s the interesting part.
I thought about what it’s like for a therapist to sit in their office and have people come to see them for 45 minute sessions – charging say from $100 – $150 per hour and seeing 5-8 patients a day.
Not bad living – you get to wear what you want – and many work out of a room with a side entrance in their home.
If you go with the higher $150 number (of course you ALWAYS go for the higher number!) 6 patients a day – 4 days a week – and multiple that by the ever popular 4.3 weeks per month – you’ve got an income of $185, 760.
So, I figured I could easily live on 1/2 of that – so 3 a day – and do it on the phone or skype, and you’ve got a 12 hour work week – (well technically 12 sessions 45 minutes each is only 9 hours – for a $92,880 gross income.
And do my other happy Internet marketing stuff as I see fit and probably earn another $50,000 – $100,000.
I’m busy this week putting together The Starudst Factor, a course I’m going to teach over the next 6 weeks about how to get famous in your niche, blow away the competition, and seriously increase your income.
There will probably be a lot of opportunities for personal coaching that come out of this – branding, identity, vocabulary and strategy are just so hard to do for yourself – even with a good template. I’ll just have to see if the idea of making a weekly schedule of coaching calls at a lower ($150 per 45 minutes) fee is something I really will enjoy doing.
In the end though, it would apparently make a great reality TV show. Most of my clients tell some epic tales. Just ask HBO!
PS:
Coaches, shrinks, or if you use a coach, please let me know your thoughts on this idea?
